Eress Forum 2019

This year marks the 14th anniversary of the Eress Forum, which will be held in Brussels. So, get ready to pack your bags!

Here is everything you need to know prior to registering:

What is Eress Forum?

Eress Forum is the place to be when it comes to metering, settlement, and billing of traction energy. This is where the whole sector comes together—everyone from train operators and infrastructure managers to manufacturers, universities, and representatives from the European Commission. The Eress Forum is a perfect arena for those looking to get the latest updates on what is happening within the railway energy sector, and to hear it from leading experts in the industry.

What is happening at this year’s Eress Forum?

This year, we are very happy to have the European Commission, DG Move, present at our forum. It is no secret that we are fast approaching the deadlines—set by the Commission—to have exchange and settlement solutions in place. So, it is very important that we discuss how the industry is reacting and acting in accordance to this obligation. CER and EIM support Eress Forum and will be there, too. Dyre Martin Gulbrandsen will also be speaking about what Eress is doing to promote international collaboration among railways and how we help countries into metered energy exchange and settlement.

In one of the workshops that day, we will discuss and give input to the Sector Declaration, which is key for the whole railway industry. Here, both train operators and infrastructure managers will agree to move forward with this transition: Train operators will install meters onboard their trains, and infrastructure managers will use that data to facilitate a more accurate means of billing exact energy consumption. Therefore, it is vital that the industry comes together to provide their input and take part in this work.

On the Eress side, we will be focusing a lot on how to implement these billing solutions, in terms of what things need to be taken into consideration ahead of time, what are the challenges in doing so, what are the opportunities, and so on.

“The best part about the forum, besides the updated information and discussions, is the atmosphere. Even though we are different countries and companies, the Eress Forum creates an atmosphere of camaraderie and a willingness to help one another through the exchange of ideas and knowledge. It is vital to be able to discuss ideas, exchange experiences, and find solutions between colleagues across borders, especially when we all operate within such a niche industry.”

- Dyre Martin Gulbrandsen, Director of Eress
