With the planned reduction, SBB intends to operate exclusively on electricity from renewable sources, supporting the strategy of Switzerland for sustainable energy production and consumption.

Energy savings by the Swiss Rail Undertakings are the key success factor for SBB’s energy saving programme.

The change towards metered energy settlement at SBB has had a two-fold approach:

The first one is to adapt the settlement and billing system of SBB to handle metered energy consumption. Here, joining Eress partnership has played a key role. 

The second one is to equip the existing fleet of vehicles with energy meters.
